Windows Recommended Update....Computer Lockup

I received a recommended Windows Update on my
Dell WindowsXP Pro, to which I downloaded and
installed. It was a Security Update for DirectX 9.x
After doing so and rebooting my computer, I am in a
continuous loop of booting to the windows splash screen
and then being kicked back to a screen that tells me that
windows was unable to successfully start. I am unable to
even boot in any kind of safe-mode or even get to a
restore point from the windows install CD. Any
suggestions...other than starting all over??

I installed that Update this morning - haven't had any problems with it yet.
