Windows Product Key Key Update Tool

I know this is old ground for most of you. When I sent my CPU out for repair
it came back without my XP CD and I started to get the nagware regarding WGA.
The repair shop is out of business, of course! Is the downloadable tool to
resolve this, product key update tool, reliable and are there any issues that
I should know about before attempting to fix this problem? If it's difficult
or has problems, I'll just live with the nag, nag, nag. I don't want to make
things worse than they are now. I've been to the site and understand it for
the most part, but if somethning can go wrong, I'll find it. I would
appreciate any feedback I can get. Thanks,

When you 'sent your CPU out for repair it came back without your XP CD'...
Why did you not contact them immediately then? Did you send said CD with it
when you 'sent it out for repair'?

The Product Key Update tool assumes you have your proper product key - which
I assume is stuck to your computer - and does not necessarily fix your
problems with WGA telling you that your copy is illegitimate.

It is not difficult at all.

The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a
reinstall!

And you accepted that? I don't understand that at all. If you sent
your car out for repair and it came back without your radio, would you
accept that? I would scream bloody murder, and sue them if necessary.
You simply let them steal something from you.

Purchase a legitimate copy of XP and use the tool to change the key. You
will need to purchase the same version as that installed though as keys are
not interchangeable across versions.
