Hi,

One week ago I had XP Pro installed on a Pentium 2 running
a creative ensonic audio PCI sound card, the tech had a
confliction after installing and had to disconnect/remove
ancilliary hard ware to diagnose the problem.

Yesterday after trying to play a pin ball game I couldn't
initiate sound for the game. On investigation there is no
sound card being read on the system, however our tech
claims the card is there. Tried installing the drivers and
the system also tells us there is no sound card present.

The problem now is after restarting I get a pop up window
telling me "since windows was first activated on this
computer, the hardware on the computer has changed
significantly. Due to these changes, Windows must be
reactivated within 3 days. Do you want to reactivate
windows?

We've scanned for viruses and no one has been in side the
computer since I had XP installed so there is no way
anything could have been removed. Is it that the card may
have expired or could there be some oher problem? What can
I do? Should I just say yes to the pop up window?

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

You problem has it's roots in your flakey hardware. With MS's previous
OS's, that would be your only program, but because MS needs to feed it's
greed, it created a new problem for you. Next time MS's want to sell
you an OS that is designed to disable itself, think about it, because
something that is purposely designed to disable itself, eventually, and
usually when it least convenient for you.

You can try calling up MS to activate, but more than likely it will
happen again.

Yes - something has damaged the record of activation on the machine. It
will only take 30 seconds to be on the net, then go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and take the 'activate on the net now' to start it over. It is unlikely
that this will turn into a request for you to do it by phone (and
certainly won't if it is more than 120 days since you did it last).
Even if it did it is not such a big deal - but becomes bigger if you
waste those 3 days
