Windows (out of date) updates !

XP Home ed. SP3+ ( ...'plus' meaning almost everything ! )

I've just been wading through Windows Updates !
....What a nightmare ! ...

i.e. "Hardware, Optional (6)

....wants to replace :-
Creative - Sound - Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM),
....with a version from August 2006
Creative - Sound - Creative Game Port,
....with a version from January 2003
nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT,
....with a version from March 2009
nVidia - Network - NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator,
....with a version from August 2008
Samsung - Display - SyncMaster 2053BW/2053GW,SyncMaster Magic
CX2053BW(Digital),
....with a version from December 2007
Silicon Image - Storage - Silicon Image SiI 3132 SATALink Controller,
....with a version from August 2008

The "details" for each one give no clue, other than "Date last published,"
and "Date Released."

This NOT VERY GOOD, MS could at least indicate which is older - the
currently installed driver, or the one theyr'e offering - with which to
upset my PC, ....or at LEAST not bother to offer it/them at all - i.e
drivers that are older than those currently installed !!!!

regards, Richard

Hardware Drivers from MS is a form of Russian Roulette. Don't even go
there.

Use Google and search for Secunia Personal Software Inspector
it's a free program that scans your system for outdated programs and gives
you the
location for the upgrade. Use this for all non MS updates and only use the
MS update site
for MS software updates.
Hardware updates should be done from the manufacturers website.
Your 9400GT video card drivers should be updated from the NVidea website

Experienced users never install a third-party hardware or software update
offered by Windows Update. Only obtain such updates from the manufacturer.
