When working in xp, and I am on the internet how can I
stop the window that is loading from coming to the front
and the window that I was looking at/editing is
deactivated and I have to keep bringing up the window I
has open originally. This stops when the window has
finished loading.

Get the free Microsoft utility, TweakUI. It has a setting that will prevent
windows from stealing focus. Open TweakUI and go to General/Focus for the
settings.

TweakUI is available here:

(I'm not the original poster.) Ronnie, does the TweakUI "stealing
focus" setting work for you? I haven't found it to have any effect
when I open a webpage in a new window, which still plops itself in
front and becomes the active window.

I've been using a freeware utility called SendBack - sendbk31.zip -
which lets me right-click the title bar of a loading window and send
it to the back. Not a perfect solution, but it will do until one comes
along.

Hi Maureen

Yes, it works fine here. I have it set to Prevent stealing focus and flash
the taskbar icon 3 times when the page is loaded.

If this does not work for you, you might want to try Kellys website. She has
a small vbs file that will automatically enable this option. Download the
file and double click to install. There is also an Undo file there if you
wish to change it back.

I'm not Ronnie, but yes, IE6 r-click 'open in a new window' is the one
case I've found where 'focus stealing' still happens, despite tweakui
setting to the contrary.
