Hi,
Some time ago my local PC store posted an amendment on their website saying
that due to MS wanting to pursuade more people to go legal with their copies
of Windows, they had relaxed the rules to allow OEM software such as Windows
XP Pro to be purchased with ANY hardware such as a mouse. Indeed my friend
has bought several copies when he has built PCs for people.
However I was talking to someone from another company who are MS Volume
License partners (I'm doing my best to go legal, but struggling against the
finance...) who said that MS has recently reversed this. 'Apparantly' it
was a loophole in the EULA that allowed the purchase with any hardware, but
the EULA has now been modified to close the loophole.
Can anyone confirm the current status - can you still / could you ever buy
OEM Windows with a mouse?
Furthermore, if there happens to be anyone who knows about volume licensing;
is one copy of OEM Windows XP Pro cheaper on a charity-price volume license
such as Open than that same OEM Windows XP Pro bought in a shop, assuming I
already have 5x licenses to qualify for the Open license. (We do qualify
for charity pricing under the charity's act)
Thanks,
Peter.
