Windows Movie Maker

I am trying to capture analogue camcorder footage from a Sony Hi-8 machine on
to a Dell Dimension 3100 through a analogue TV tuner PCI card. I have tried
with both the RCA phono sockets and the Video S socket and I can only get
pictures, but no audio. I have also tried a footage from a Sony digital
camera. Please can anyone help as Dell haven't got a clue!

Windows Movie Maker really doesn't like analog video. Have you tried third
party capturing software?

If you get no audio, did you try connecting it to the Line In on the
soundcard? And ensure Line In isn't set to Mute?

Surely the Video S cable with its four small pins contains the audio. I tried
the RCA phono, the yellow plug provides the picture, I tried the black plug
in both the white and red sockets (presumably they are left & right stereo?)
I tried the diagnositics test and there is an error on the record, playback
test with the internal? mic, so I have asked Dell to look at this again

No s-video is as it's name suggests video only. It carries the luminace and
chrominance etc seperately, unlike the rca phono which it is linked in one.
With s-video you have to also use the audio cable, so red is right, white
(or black) is left channel. Generally if it's one channel only out it is
left.
