Windows Movie Maker 5.1

I used my windows movie maker once and ever since then it won't work. It
opens, and a moment later I get that "has encountered an error" box which
gives me 3 choices Debug, Send report, or Cancel.

No matter which choice I choose, the program closes down.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Yep, follow all the suggestions John gave you and if none of them owrk come
back and tell us what happened when you did each of the things as this will
give us more clues on what may e causing it.
