windows movie maker 2 doens't work

After downloading the new Movie Maker 2 for Windows XP,
the movie maker now locks up at random. The playback is
slow and choppy and for some reason all AVI files I try to
save become un-openable with Studio DV.

Microsoft has conveniently made it effectively difficult
to get an kind of support from them, with many broken
links and "failure to send" so please, someone help.
