XP Movie Maker "send to DV" Choppy Playback
I'm attempting to record Movie Maker compositions, AVI's & MPEG's, back to
the miniDV Handycam.

Using XP Movie Maker, Sony Handycam DCR HC30 Firewire connected and camera
in (PLAY/EDIT) DV , "DV in" mode, the process goes fine, but playback is not
well.

Seems like the output from moviemaker has breaks, while the camera continues
to record blank sections, stop and go all the way through, taking twice the
time.

I have lots of speed, CPU 2.4GHz and Raid HD speed. Using Audigy 2 Platinum
IEEE 1394. Audigy has two Firewire ports one on the card in back and one on
the front console.

Any ideas how I may correct this? Thanks

Check you have the latest audigy drivers as early ones were not fully
ieee1394 compliant.
Turn off all other apps, inc internet/anti-virus/firewall/screensaver/etc.
Try making a dv-avi file and exporting that back to the cam, it may be that
MM cannot cope with transitions/music etc added in real time export.
Try a free app called windv, which is just for import and export, it often
works when MM doesn't. Link on this page

I had the same problem. At first I thought it was a buffer problem, and I
tried the WinDV utility mentioned elsewhere in this thread. That appeared to
do the trick, but a few weeks later the problem returned. I finally figured
out (I think) that it was a bad Firewire cable. Everything works ok as long
as I use the Firewire cable that came with my Ipod. When I try using a
different Firewire cable purchased at a certain office products store, the
problem returned.
