This is Windows "Live" Messenger, correct? In Add/Remove Programs, find
Windows Live Essentials. Check to uninstall and at that point you can
choose Messenger from the list of programs and remove only that. It won't
hurt a thing.

If Jeff T has ordinary WinXP (this NG) he will find
Windows Messenger is the last item listed at
/Control Panel / Add/Remove / Windows Components/
