Whenever I try to start windows messenger, I get this
error message :

"Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Error signature :

AppName: msmsgs.exe
AppVer: 4.7.0.2009
ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer:5.1.2600.1217
Offset: 00008e20

The program worked fine before. It began doing that
yesterday.

I installed MSN Messenger 6.1 last week. I thought that
maybe there was a conflict between those programs so I
uninstalled MSN Messenger, but the problem's still there.

I tried re-installing Windows Messenger and it still
doesn't work.

What can I do ?

Greetings Frank,

As a "quick fix" to this, you may want to use System Restore. To do so, click Start, then
Help & Support, then "Undo changes to my computer using System Restore" and restore back to a
point when it did work.

Thanks for the quick reply Jonathan but, unfortunately, the system restore function was turned off.

Also, I occasionally get a "memory could not be written" or "memory could not be read" error message when I try to start Windows Messenger.

It's getting pretty annoying since the program automatically tries to start every couple of seconds and I keep getting the error message I mentionned in my first post.
