I started the download for the new version of Windows
Messenger 5.0

ContentIE5\917KD6N\install[1].exe is not a valid Win32
application.

I have no idea what this means. I need to know if I can
re install Windows XP home to get back my missing files.

Thanks in Advance

You got a bad download. For such things it is *not* necessary to do
something drastic, just go back to
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/
and use Download now again. ANd I suggest saving the download in the
first instance, and only when you have checked all has arrived run it to
install. It should be 8.23 MB in size
