Windows Media Player error in Windows XP Home

I have Windows XP Home SP2.
I installed WMP 11 with IE7. WMP 11 did not work and I could not uninstall
it or revert back to WMP 10. When installing WMP 10 I get the message " it
was not possible to complete setup". Reinstalling WMP 11 gives error code
80070005.
Running WMP 10 gives the "an internal application error has occured".
Wmsetup10.log contains the following:

I have tried solutions posted for similar problem but with no luck.
Any advice?
I don't want to reformat or reinstall Windows.
