Windows Media Player 7 8 9 Recent Files Remover

Sure, you can download the Microsoft Media Player Bonus Pak:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp

(it's listed in the dropdown)

but the page says that it requires XP AND knowing MS as we all do, who
knows what other "features" are included with the download?

Instead, I just looked up this now hard to find freeware utility that
cleans Media Player MRUs called appropriately enough, "WMP 7/8/9
Recent Files Remover":

http://tomsprograms.toms-world.org/WMP8RFR.php

or more directly:

http://www.toms-world.org/content/view/20/60/

For some reason, I was unable to find this program at either Nonags or
Snapfiles, but the homepage is still there.

Or you could use MRUBlaster which does this and loads more

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/mrublaster.html

Latest Update: 3/28/2004 - approx. 30,345 MRU items in detection
database

MRU-Blaster is a program made to do one large task - detect and clean
MRU (most recently used) lists on your computer.

These MRU lists contain information such as the names and/or locations
of the last files you have accessed. They are located ALL OVER your
registry, and for almost ANY file type. By looking at these MRU lists,
someone could determine what files you opened/saved/looked at, what
their file names were, and much more! (And, in many cases, the lists are
displayed in drop-down menus automatically.)

With additional plug-ins that allow you to clean out your Temporary
Internet Files and Cookies, MRU-Blaster enhances the protection of your
privacy!

MRU-Blaster is freeware/donationware. Please consider donating if you
like the program!

(clipped)

I used to use MRU-Blaster, but finally decided that it's overkill.
Media Player MRU Remover is simple and to the point. Even can run in
the background.
