Windows ME: Worst Operating System Ever!

I ran ME and it wasn't any slower than Win98, it NEVER
crashed, not one single time and ALL my applications worked w/o
problems.

You ran it on an upgraded Win95/8 system or a clean install? I refused to
install ME because colleagues of mine (who all did upgrades) hated it due to
the crashes and general flakiness; I've heard the clean install worked
great, but that's often not an option. I assume some of the really annoying
Vista issues (like it's inability to install ASP.net without diving into
System32 and manually resetting permissions because Notepad doesn't work
nice with UAC) are due to the upgrade issue, but a company spending more
money than NASA spent sending a crew to the moon should be able to make an
upgrade of one of their products to the newer version work much closer to
flawlessly.

Any OS I run since DOS 5.0 is a clean install!

The ONLY upgrades I ever did were new betas of Windows 95 and I did
upgrades only to test the upgrade ability (which was perfect on my
machine.) Afer testing the upgrade I formatted the HD and did a clean
install of that beta. When the next beta arrived I formatted the HD,
installed and configured Windows 3.1, did the Win95 upgrade, tested it,
then formatted and clean installed that beta and repeated with each new
beta to assure it would upgrade and would run as a clean install.

No way in heck would I ever go to that much trouble again to beta test
but there's no more 15 minute installs, either!

unfortunately ubuntu is worse than vista for the common user

The one customer that switched from Vista to Pclinuxos (so far) told me
that this Linux distro was a lot easier to learn than Vista. Of course,
I set it up for him, just as I set up Windows machines with the correct
drivers and useful programs. I also spent 45 minutes showing him how to
use Linux. He still has the option to buy the restore disks from HP for
Vista, so the jury is still out. For the first time, the learning curve
for a MS Windows, may actually be longer than for a Linux distro.

I am a big supporter of pclinuxos 2007

I had posted about this when that release came out and stated:

PCLINUX2007 puts ubuntu to shame!

and its true.

Bleeding-edge, Mainstream, Late-adotpters... it's a bell-curve.

The concept of early- to main- to late-adopters are developed for the
general purchasing behavior without product quality in mind. In addition,
other factors, such as purchasing power, macroeconomics conditions,
competition forces, etc., all will change the curve.

I am not saying or implying Vista is good or bad, just to clarify the thesis
of so-called consumer purchase behavior.
