Hello all! I'm new to this forum and hopefully I've posted this in the right forum. My problem is this....I can't seem to get my windows firewall to start. I found another thread here called "Security Center unavailable?" (posted 12-01-2005) where there were a few things listed to turn on....upon trying to start these I came to Windows Management Instrumentation. When I tried starting this I got an error message saying "Could not start the Windows Management Instrumentation service on local computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found".

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I don't have the disks for the operating system as I bought the computer off ebay (I have verified the OS and it is authentic according to Microsoft).

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Not without the original installation media. Sorry but it's a component part of Windows that can only be reinstalled via the Windows XP CD.

Download Sygate -> http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=53687

Fantastic personal firewall, more configurable than Windows Firewall as well. Security center should pick it up as a recognised firewall.
