type does not have programme associated to perform this action and to go to
Set Association in control panel. But I cannot find anywhere to do this. the
file types so far are Doc and pps. does anyone have any ideas please

Jim,
Try this START>CONTROL PANEL>PROGRAMS>SET ASSOCIATIONS from there you wait
until Vista loads all the extension names, then scroll down the list. .pps
must be associated with MS PowerPoint of Sun's OpenOffice Impress in order
to view a slide show (I prefer OpenOffice Impress) and with .doc extension,
you must associate it with MS Word or Sun's Writer. This is done by clicking
on the CHANGE PROGRAMS button in the top right of the SET ASSOCIATIONS
screen. If you do not see the proper program suggested on the next screen
(Open with), click on the BROWSE button at the bottom of this screen and
move down and into the PROGRAM FILES(64bit Vista) or PROGRAM FILES x86 (32 &
64bit Vista) tree and folders within. Here you will find all the programs
installed on your machine. When you find the right folder with, say, MS
Office click your way through the appropriate folders until you come across
<word.exe> and <pwrpnt.exe>. They may not spell exactly as shown but you get
the idea. Once you find the right executable file (.exe), click on it to
select the program to associate with the file type. Thats all there is to
it.
Cheers,
JJCB
