Did you enter the ID and password in the email account with CAPITAL and
lower case letters in the correct places? Have you tried entering the ID
both with and without putting the portion of your email address starting
with @ after it?
What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause various
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.
