windows mail won't recognize set associations

When I try to open attachments (.pdf) the message to set associations in
control panel comes up. I have done this, and when I go into contol panel and
set association, it all looks good. Meaning that I have set associations
(.pdf to open with Acrobat 8.1) but Windows mail doesn't recognize it. This
is driving me bonkers. Please help.

Save the PDF file to your Documents folder and open it from there.

Your doing better than I am. Just exactly are you finding "set
associations." Maybe I'm in the wrong control panel.

I'm having this funk too I just transfered all my users to vista premium 64
bit and associations dont work. The file as an example is wmv file. I drag it
to the desktop and it works but I have my father using this computer and That
would be a big hassle for him and enough to turn him off vista( hes just that
kind of person).

Thanks for any additional help
