windows mail to outlook error?

a collegue of mine has asked me to set up "act 2007" database for him it
responds properly with outlook and outlook express but somehow he managed to
install windows mail on the machine and now I can't get any of his outlook
fuctgions to even open up any longer.

any suggestions on what could be tried here?
 
In 'Control Panel|Default Programs|Set your default programs', is Outlook
set to be the default and does it have all defaults assigned to it? What
version of Outlook?

There can't be both Outlook Express and Windows Mail on the machine: Did he
install Windows Live Mail?
 
Windows Mail can't be "installed". It comes included on every Vista
computer.
What do you mean by "outlook functions"?
Perhaps the solution is to install Outlook on that machine.
