Windows Mail - send an email from contacts folder or hyperlink

When trying to send an email direct from an address book entry or from a
hyperlink online it says: operation failed
then: an error occurred while attempting to invoke the default email program

how can we fix this?

Go to Control Panel | Default Programs and make sure WinMail is default.
