I have been using Windows Mail on my Vista Home Premium machine for a while
now. The was an update loaded on my machine by winows update within the
last couple days and ever since my Windows Mail no longer accesses by POP3
Email account. I receive the following error message:

An unknown error has occurred. Account: <<Email Server Name>>, Server:
<<Email Server Name>>, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x80004005

Any suggestions?

Please include the entire error message.
right-click on the error, select Copy, then paste into a reply.
You don't have to hide the server name, just any email address that may
show.

Since you obscured the mail server name, it makes our crystal ball
very cloudy.

You might try this: delete that mail account, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate that account.
Which antivirus program are you using?

Norton 360
I have disabled email scan and firewall no difference
Also, have deleted the account and recreated to no avail
virus scan shows clean

also tried WMUtil151
no help

As a diagnostic test, uninstall Norton, reboot, and see if that brings any
improvement to your Windows Mail problem. You can always reinstall
Norton if there is no improvement. Many folks here have reported a
multitude of assorted problems that went away when Norton was
uninstalled.

Uninstall Norton, remove the account and restart Windows. Then re-enter the
account.

Uninstalled Norton360..
rebooted...
dropped account.....
added account in accordance with isp ....
still not working

should I look into another email software?

IT`S NECESSARY THAT YOU KNOW THE CONFIGURATION YOUR SERVER. FILL POP, FILL
SMTP, YOUR EMAIL, YOUR NAME, ETC.
THE NEW ACCOUNT WINDOWS VISTA IT`S VERY EASY. TRY AGAIN PLEASE.

Sounds like your Windows Mail has been corrupted.
I suggest you upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
It seems to be more stable and has fewer bugs.

Posting in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is often treated as shouting, and therefore
likely to get you fewer answers.

I can tell you I have just encountered the same problem as "SRS on
Shentel.net". It seemed to happen after my computer wanted to do the update
for the "Motorola SM56 Data Fax Modem", which may I say has failed everytime
I have tried to run it.
Does anyone out there have an answer?

Don't assume that your issue is just like someone else's. Leave that to the
experts to decide. If you would like some custom help, post a verbatim
copy of your error message.
