Windows Mail - Mail not appearing in SENT ITEMS

J

Joe Gill

Running VISTA (non-SP1, but otherwise up-to-date) with KB941090

When I send mail from Windows Mail via my ISP using SMTP, the mail goes to
the recipient.
However, the mail does not appear in "SENT ITEMS"

Do to a prior problem with mail being 'stuck' in the outbox, I applied the
hotfix for KB941090, and now mail no longer gets stuck in out box.

I have tried the following cycle of steps:
A) Turn the option to save a copy in SENT ITEMS to OFF
B) Shutdown and restarted Windows Mail
C) Turn the option to save a copy in SENT ITEMS to ON
D) Shutdown and restarted Windows Mail
Still the same problem exists.

TIA for any/all help!

That type of problem can be caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Thanks for the reply!
1) I am using McAfee security Center.
2) Any drawbacks, 'gotchas' to upgrading to Windows Live Mail (WLM)?
3) Will WLM be able to bring in all my folders including INBOX, as well as
user folders?
4) Also, is WLM fully integrated into Vista (for example will sendto: links
trigger the same as Windows Mail?
5) Maybe you know or can speculate.. What is the strategic direction for
mail client (Windows Mail or WLM)?
TIA

1) WLM is OK with McAfee as long as you leave its email scanning disabled.
2) No drawbacks. And the change is not irreversible. If it turns out you
don't like it, merely uninstall, and WM will be back just as before.
3) Yes. The installer will automatically import all your accounts, settings,
folders and emails.
4) Yes, full Vista integration.
5) Microsoft stated last November that WLM was the replacement for WM.
WM will not receive any development, it's a dead duck. Contrast that with
WLM which has been getting ongoing development, including a new beta
which was just released: http://download.live.com/wlmail
