If you have a free US Yahoo mail account, you can't use it directly with
either Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail.

This is because the free US Yahoo mail does not have the servers that are
necessary. It's a limitation of Yahoo mail.

You have to either pay for the enhanced mail service, or use a utility like
YPOP.

it is a bt yahoo account in the uk. paid for bt broadband so yes i guess.
went onto yahoo mail to view emails. windows mail cannot download emails
anymore from this server. error message for windows mail reads:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'J TOLLEY - BT Yahoo!
Mail', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL):
Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

however on windows live mail i keep receiving same emails going back several
days. error message from live mail reads:

Unable to send or receive messages for the J TOLLEY - BT Yahoo! Mail
account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible
causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period
of inactivity.

Server: 'mail.btinternet.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

is this helpful? thanks for your attention.

I am curious why you are using a different port (995) with Windows Mail
than you are using with Windows Live Mail (port 110).
According to your provider:
http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.c..._cv=4.414&p_cats=346,401,412,414&p_faqid=9701

you should be using the standard ports, which for receiving is 110.
Also unselect the SSL option.

The error you are seeing in Windows Live Mail is usually caused by
interference from an antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off.

have changed from port 995 to 110 to receive and unselected ssl. using avg
internet security and have turned email scanning off.
error message now on windows mail:

Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [IN-USE] maildrop busy.', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

error message on windows live mail:

Unable to send or receive messages for the J TOLLEY - BT Yahoo! Mail
account. A time-out occurred while communicating with the server.

Server: 'mail.btinternet.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC19

The "ERR [IN-USE] maildrop busy" error means there is a problem at the
server. All you can do is wait it out since that error should clear by itself.
It is often caused by checking mail repeatedly at too short an interval. If you
are using an automatic mail check, be sure the interval is at least 5 minutes.

The Windows Live Mail error is the same as before, and indicates interference
from an antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?

That symptom typically indicates a 'stuck' email on the server.
Log in via webmail (using your browser), sort the messages there by date,
delete all the older ones you already have downloaded, plus one more.
Try Windows Mail again.

To all; I am an IT consultant and have a client with the same issue.
Running Windows Mail in Vista Home. POP server (Yahoo bizmail) has no
emails. Yet everytime we send/receive in Windows Mail, we get XXX of
YYY and it gets stuck after about 85% of emails. These are the same
emails everytime. My concern is that Windows Mail has some kind of
buffer that grabs the emails then processes them into the inbox. I
have removed the WIndows Mail store. Removed and recreated the email
account on the PC and even had Yahoo remove and rebuild the account.
Nothing has worked. If you know about "pre-storage" file for Windows
Mail, or anything else, please assist.

Thanks, Michael

G

Gary VanderMolen

Getting stuck at 'Receiving X of Y messages', with the first X messages
getting re-downloaded every time is not a problem within Windows Mail.
That typically indicates a 'stuck' or corrupted email on the server.
Log in via webmail (using your browser), sort the messages there by date,
delete all the older ones you already have downloaded, plus one more.
Try Windows Mail again.
