I am trying to import some folders into Windows mail and keep getting 'not
responding' even after waiting. I get the selection for Windows Mail 7,
then Browse to get my files but then 'next' doesn't proceed. I have Vista.

On the Desktop because my motherboard died and we had to save all the data
in Desktop folder while I recovered software. Its been a nightmare! I
already imported the files into Windows Mail but some remained in a
'recovered messages' file so those are the files I'm trying to retrieve.

Windows Mail 7 ? You couldn't have meant Windows 7, because if you did, you
would not have Windows Mail. So, what is Windows Mail 7 ?

Well under File, Import, then there are only Outlook options and windows
mail 7 option

You are right. Sorry for the distraction.

So the messages you want to "import" are already in a Recovered Messages
folder in Windows Mail? In that case, don't use import. Select the messages
and move them.

Well the messages are in a folder of data called recovered messages stored
on the desktop under a huge long extension. Not under the Windows Mail.
So can I move a folder containing all the messages? and if so, there is not
a 'move' function. Copy and Paste? I've tried the drag and drop but that
doesn't work. That's why I thought I could import the folders. When I
recovered my data I used 'import' and moved hundreds of files at once. For
some reason a few did not move so I have cleaned up the folders I need to
make the move of just needed information. Each folder that I need to
recover contains many messages. Do you think I need then to move one
message at a time? and if so using what function?

If they are not in a Windows Mail folder, then you can't use
'move', which only works internally to Windows Mail.
It's possible that the Recovered Messages won't import
because they are corrupted. Are you sure there is important
information in them that you need to keep?
In a pinch, I believe you can drag the individual .eml files
into the WM message list pane.

See Gary's replies. You should be able to drag any EML files located
anywhere on your desktop (including a folder) directly to an open Windows
Mail folder (i.e., with Windows Mail on-screen but with the desktop or open
folder visible, too).

OK, I guess there must be some corruption. I cannot drag and drop a folder
without an error message but HURRAY I can at least drag and drop message by
message into folders already existing in Windows Mail. Thank you so much
for your insight. Patricia
