windows mail attachments

I am unable to open any attachments to windows mail. I have been unable to
resolve the issue using tech support. I have two other mail accounts set up,
outlook and thunderbird. Both of these accounts will open attachments and
function normally. I am using a pavillion m7790e. So far I have gone into
the registry and found pps files and changed show to open. I unchecked the
box that will not allow attachments to be opened that may contain a virus, I
have run a system file check with everything okay.I have uninstalled every
program that I installed. I still cannot open attachments with windows mail.
Is this something peculiar to vista? Is anyone else having this problem and
if so does anyone have a solution? I have no other problems with vista that
I am aware of except I cannot open an attachment using forte agent either.
Any help? Thanks

You must have the program installed on "your" computer that was used to
create the file - or an appropriate free viewer. In your case you would need
Power Point or the free Microsoft Power Point Viewer.

Same goes for other file types. These other programs are commercial programs
and you must purchase them.

Thank you for your reply. If you will re read my statement I said I went
into the registry and changed the power point from show to open, therefore
it must have been installed. I am sure it is something similar to what you
have said , but I do not know what it could be. It is not just pps files
that will not open, it is any file. When I try to open it nothing happens.
If I try to save I get a message that says an error occured and to check my
disc space? Oh, one other thing, I re-installed pps and microsoft office,
still nothing. Anyway thanks again.
