I opened and edited an Word-Attachement with Windows Mail. Then I saved it
with the option "Save" not "Save As." Where is the changed file saved? The
content of the mail is still the old. It is very important. Thank you.

It might be in your Temporary Internet Files, but don't count on it. Always
save files before editing them.

try again using save as - then look to see the path where it will be saved -
that's
where it probably went the first
