Windows Mail and Yahoo! Mail Plus

I recently purchased a new computer and it came equipped with Vista. I like
just about everyone else, or so it seems, am having a problem setting-up
Windows Mail and Yahoo! Mail to work together. I research on my own and found
POP3 and SMTP. I also discovered that I had to up grade to Yahoo! Mail Plus,
which I did. After all that it is still not working correctly. I tried to
send and e-mail and received the following error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Hey!', Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:
'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port 25, Secure (SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800 CCC0F

During the set-up of Windows Mail, I did not see a prompt for a SSL, and
although I do know that there specific portal numbers, I don't know what
numbers to use.

Any help on this irritating problem would be appreciated. My last resort
will be to find out how to turn of Windows Mail and just stick with Yahoo!

Thank you Gary. I believe you have solved my problem. If there are other
Yahoo! customers having SSL trouble it may be because they tell us to 995 for
incoming and 465 for outgoing, but the instructions that you refered me to
suggest 587 for outgoing and that is what finally worked for me. Now I just
have to back and make Windows Mail my default instead of Yahoo! Thanks again.

Use Yahoo's directions for their Mail Plus:

Those directions are for Outlook Express, but they should work fine
with Windows Mail. Let us know if you have any further problems
with this.

In step 22 of the instructions I referenced it does say port 995,
but there are circumstances under which SSL doesn't work,
which makes port 587 a viable alternative.
