Had happened to you that you are typing in word, or MSN Messenger, or
anywhere else, and sudendly a pop-up from another window comes "up" in front
of you and as you were types, you accidentallly selected an option from one
of the buttons, from a message box you didn't even read the message from?

Well, this happens more frecuenly in Vista than in XP, and for the few cases
in windows XP, you had Tweak UI from the Power Toys, to select an option that
reads Prevent Lost of Focus on windows, this set something on the registry,
but in Vista there are no power toys, what can I do to disable the
unauthorize focus lost on my windows?

Please help.

Hello Mick, it is not about Internet Explorer pop-ups, is about the other
application windows poping up, for instance, I have Word, Messenger, and I am
typing, and suddenly a windows update notification steals the focus of my
topmost window (Word) and as I was typing I choose an option from the
different buttons windows update was asking, I had no time to read the
question, and no idea what option did I selected.

this is and example, not that this exacly happened, it is just to explain
the behaviour.

I just want the the "Prevent lost focus by other applications" functionality
that Tweak UI gave me under XP.

Hi,
You probably have, by default, the registry value which meant (in XP) that
"Prevent applications from stealing focus" was enabled.

See the "Modify the registry" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=886217
A value of 20000 for ForegroundLockTimeout is all you can do to enable
"Prevent applications from stealing focus" That's the registry edit that
TweakUI would have made.

Those Windows dialogs and prompts will AFAIK always take focus.

Minimizing (to the taskbar) Internet Explorer or other programs will
usually, but not always, prevent them from stealing focus.

Hope this helps,
Don
