Suddenly my XP Pro machine logs off when inactive for about 20 minutes.
I don't know where the setting is for this and how it got changed.
Can someone tell me how to change the activity time or prevent it from
logging off?
Thanks.

I did this.
System Standby and System Hybernates both say never.
Turn off Hard Disk also says never.

Ron;

Right click on your desktop and select properties. Select screensaver and
then select power options and you will be able to change it.

it didn't work.
I changed it to 30 and applied, then set it to never but still have the same
problem.
I also trued rebooting. It didn't help.

It says
Wait "15" minutes and "On resume, display window screen" is checked.
It may be every 15 minutes that I keep logging off.
Should I change anything?

Deselect "On resume, display window screen" for sure,
and set it 0, if doesn't work set 120 or what ever.
I don't use screensavers, I Think it will go into a dark screen,
get activated by moving the mouse or pressing any key on
the keyboard.

Delecting seemed to work. There was no option to set to '0'. The lowest
was 1 minute. I changed to 120 minutes and it solved the problem of my
machine logging off.
By doing this, it looks like my screen saver doesn't kick on any more. It
propably wouldn't now for 120 minutes.
I still don't know why it logs off at the time the screen saver is set to
kick on.
But at least it isn't logging off now.

This might be a stupid question, but does it actually log you off or
just require your password to resume the session?

Set the Screensaver to None, and you will have
no problem at all.
I have been keeping my computers and monitors on all the time
for the past 12 years, it doesn't seem that the life of the
computer or monitor is shorter than usual.
The only time I blew a monitor is when I put 64 MB video
card on a monitor that is designed for no more than 16 MB.
I don't care as far as power consumption, my electric bill
has been as usual, few dollars extra is not going to break me.
The time wasted is more of a factor.
Screensavers were always a problem in Windows, I rather
stay without them and live in peace.
The only thing you need to keep an eye is the power supply,
their life expense is between 2 to 4 years, but when they
go they take at least on hard drive with them. Always
change the power supply, and you will be OK.
