Windows Logon Start-up sound - I'd like to turn it off

Is there a way to turn off the zany Windows sound that blares at me whenever
I start my computer; it's inconvenient to simply twist the volume dial down.

Hi Gary,

Open the Sounds and Audio Devices applet in Control Panel. Click on the
Sounds tab, and in the Program events field, scroll to locate and click on
Start Windows. In the Sounds field, use the drop-down picklist to select
"(None)", then click on Apply then OK.
