Does anyone know how to get my computer to boot directly
to the desktop?

It use to do this but now for some reason it boots to my
name where I have to click on it in order to get to the
desktop...I am the only user so this is annoying!

Anybody know how to fix this?

Hi there Tavia,

For Windows to automatically log on a user account during the startup
process, the following must be met:

- The Welcome screen must be available
- Guest account access must be turned off
- There must be only one user account on the computer
- The user account must not have a password

To make the Welcome screen available:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
2. Click "Change the way users log on or off".
3. Click to select the "Use the Welcome screen for fast and easy logon"
check box.
4. Click OK.

To turn off Guest account access:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
2. Click the Guest account.
3. Click "Turn off Guest access".

To remove the password from the user account:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
2. Click the user account.
3. Click "Remove my password".
4. Type the password in the "Type your current password" box, and then click
Remove Password.

Venkatesh, this is not correct. While the procedure will work, there are other ways (CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 and TweakUI for example) to enable autologon in XP.

Hi Venkatesh,

All the points mentioned by you are totally incorrect. None of those points
are a prerequisite to enable auto-login.

Auto login can be simply enabled by the following way:

Type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 at Start >> Run and press enter. Under the
"User" tab, uncheck the box "Users must enter a
username...." and hit apply. Supply the username and password under which
you want your computer to Auto-logon everytime and OK your way out.

As Michael said, Start, Run and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 In the list of user accounts, highlight the one you want automatically logged on. Uncheck Users must enter a username and password........ Click Apply. In the next dialog, enter the password for the user account you selected, if any.

Hi,

This is probably due to Net Framework. It adds an extra user. Follow the
advice given to auto-logon.
