Windows Login Box

Just curious if anyone knows how to go about changing the login box
for Windows XP?

The box I am referencing is the one that shows after Ctrl-Alt-Del is
pressed. I would like to change it to instead ask for phone number
and last name in stead of username and password.

Any and all help appreciated.

Thank you.

You can't do that, unless you give your users their telephone numbers as
usernames and their last names as their passwords.

That it the intent. This is for a school and each student needs a
profile that will stay with them from K-8. Our state requires the
student to know their phone number prior to entry into Kindergarten as
many do, I don't want to confuse the kids too much by them seeing a
username box or the like. Children forget things like, username means
phone number. Beside the password area I would like to say, "Last
Name/Password" so older kids can log into the same machines and can
use passwords once they get to 2nd or 3rd grade. I just want the
descriptions of the boxes to change, nothing major along the lines of
Windows functionality. This would just make it whole lot easier than
trying to explain it to the students all the time what to enter
where. If possible to make it images, rather than the word phone
number I would like to use a telephone image.

You will have to use a resource hacking tool and make these changes in
the msgina.dll to do that. The modified gina will then have to be
installed on all the computers and the proper GinaDLL (if renamed, which
would be strongly recommended) will have to be specified at the
registry's Winlogon key.

Without hacking the msgina you can add explanatory text to the logon box
by way of the LogonPrompt value at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
