whenever I try to play a cd or play some form of media
like video windows stops responding and I have to
reboot. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

I'm having the exact same problem. If you find out
please email me the news at (e-mail address removed)
Thanks.

If you haven't done so already, it would not hurt to download the most
recent, XP-compatible drivers for your disc players. Visit the websites of
the manufacturers.

I tried downloading the most recent drivers but that
didn't help. My computer stil locks when I try to listne
to music or watch video(streaming or downloaded).

It's very hard to diagnose this via Usenet. If updating the drivers
didn't work, you may have a hardware problem. Since the problem occurs
when you use your cd-rom drive, I'd suggest trying another drive. Look
at the cabling, jumpering, test the power supply. What about your RAM?
How much do you have? What is your video card? Maybe you should do a
RAM test, too. If hardware diagnosis isn't your thing, then take the
box to a good local computer repair shop (not a CompUSA or BestBuy type
of store) and have them check it out for your.
