What do you think about Windows Live One Care? Is it a good AntiVir
protection for your computer? Will it consume a lot of memory?

Thank you;
David

As an anti virus it falls way short of all its rivals in the anti virus industry.
Even the freebies beat Microsoft at detection.

I can not and will not suggest its use.

Given Microsoft's track record with being unable to deal with
vulnerabilities in it's own OS and browser, do you really want to trust them
for antivirus protection?

Despite the nay-sayers, the absolute best product on the market is Norton
Internet Security.

Until you need to remove it from your system, then it can become your worst
nightmare. It's a far cry from their enterprise AV software which is very
good.

An opinion that you certainly have a right to express, but I would like to
offer the opposite opinion. I'm one of those you call the "nay-sayers." The
absolute *worst* security product on the market is Norton Internet Security.
In fact, in my view, and in that of almost all experienced Windows users,
anything Norton is among the worst available in its category.

They have a removal tool on their website.

Unfortunately, their are too many people who are simply users of theri
systems and don't have any real technical expertise in dealing with problems
caused by Norton. For them, uninstalling the software through "Add/Remove"
is all they know and then their systems are left with a mess from Norton. A
user should not have to jump through the hoops that are necessary in order
to Remove Norton software from their systems.

Good point, but for a security solution to be worth it's salt it must
integrate tightly with the OS...many security solutions do not do this, and
therefore do not offer the same level of security of Norton. I have been
using Norton for years, and have installed it on countless systems over the
years; I have seen only a tiny fraction of a percent of those systems have
problems.

I've had similar problems in the past with McAfee, but not on the level of
Norton. Currently, I'm using Avast AV and SpySweepr Anti-Spyware. I use
Windows XP's firewall since I have the hardware firewall in my router. I've
never had a virus or been hacked, not that there's anything of value on my
PC for a hacker :) I can't say how deep Avast gets its' hooks into Windows
compared to Norton AV, but it's not a problem to uninstall it like Norton.

As an aside, I'm still amazed at how many people use Norton and McAfee
because it came pre-installed on their PCs and never knew that they need to
be upgraded on a regular basis - despite being prompted.
