hi,

my windows live messenger doesn´t work on my Vista System.

They open the messenger and than write: Program doesn´t work.

And they open the support page and wrote in german:

Die Datenausführungsverhinderung (Data Execution Prevention, DEP) ist ein
Sicherheitsfeature, das den Computer vor Schäden durch Viren und andere
Sicherheitsbedrohungen schützen kann. Gefährliche Programme können Windows
angreifen und dabei versuchen, Code in Systemspeicherbereichen auszuführen,
der für Windows und andere autorisierte Programme reserviert ist. Derartige
Angriffe können Programme und Dateien beschädigen.

Die Datenausführungsverhinderung kann zum Schutz des Computers beitragen,
indem die Programme überwacht werden. Auf diese Weise wird sichergestellt,
dass der Systemspeicher von den betreffenden Programmen gefahrlos verwendet
werden kann. Falls von der Datenausführungsverhinderung festgestellt wird,
dass ein Programm auf dem Computer in unzulässiger Weise auf den Speicher
zugreift, wird das Programm geschlossen, und Sie werden benachrichtigt.

Are you running the latest version of Live Messenger? If you click the Start
Menu, All Programs, there should be an icon there to download the latest
version of it. That version should work with DEP enabled.

Hi Maki,
Seems to be a problem with Vista DEP, which I had too. I downloaded version
8.0 and then it worked fine.

Hi,
WLM 8.1 requires the newest Adobe flashplayer to operate correctly. Adobe
flashplayer 9,
which is the one on their main site.
Once the older version is uninstalled, then install the new Adobe
Flashplayer 9 from www.adobe.com
Then WLM 8.1 will work correctly-without the DEP issues.

You do however need to uninstall any older version of flashplayer on your
system first,however.

Didn't worked for me though...
I found out that the Acer Aspire may cause this problem (Something that have
to do with the webcam)
Only workaround i know is to start Messenger as Administrator
Is there a solution for this without having to wait to Version 8.2 ?

Well I have an Acer Aspire, and downgrading to 8.0 worked for me.

Hi, I've been having the same problem and tried flashplayer9 (which I
couldn't install) and I don't know what else to look for. So I am stuck with
not being able to use my live messenger, Its really frustrating having a new
computer that doesn't work properly! Especially when I don't know how to fix
the problem... help please : (

Well I have an Acer Aspire, and downgrading to 8.0 worked for me.
