Well, that's weird.

I know the odds are against it, but perhaps you just happen to have two
faulty keyboards!

Not only two faulty keyboards, but two faulty in exactly the same way?
I suppose that's remotely possible, but so remote that if I were in
his shoes I wouldn't even consider it as a possibility.

I think it has to be a software issue. There is software that can
disable certain keys. One example is SharpKeys, which I use to
purposely disable the Caps Lock and Insert keys. Perhaps he has used
such a program and doesn't remember.

Or, perhaps he has accidentally done what such software does, and
modified the registry to make this happen.

NO, I actually re installed the driver for the keyboard. There is no way that
i can have two working keyboard that both have non working windows key (thats
4 windows keys) I am thinking it is something with the windows registry, is
that possible.

Actually as far as new programs goes, I have recently installed ccleaner on
my comp and did a cleaning, and is the only major change that my computer has
gone through..

I certainly hope you didn't "clean the registry"!

Why would you to install a driver unless *additional* features were
wanted (which are supported by ancilliary programs rather than the
driver)? The generic ones included in Windows don't work for your
so-far-unidentified keyboard? Start with those first. The 3rd party
"driver" for many keyboards includes additional software, like to
program the button and keys along with providing additional features
beyond what the generic Windows keyboard drivers use.

When you go into Device Manager and look at what is listed under the
Keyboards category, what keyboard is listed there? When you look at its
properties, whose driver is listed?

So WHAT [original] keyboard are you using?

You can also disable both of the Windows keys (from any keyboard you
attach) from Group Policy and malware likes to tinker with GP settings
especially on XP Home where there is no GPE, so what is your XP
version, what malware scans have you done, did you let CCleaner clean
your registry, if the following key exists in the registry and you did
not create it through GPE or manually, delete it (default) or set it
to zero and reboot:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Name: NoWinKeys

I didnt mean the driver that keyboard came with, I deleted the keyboard from
device manager and reinstalled the microsoft driver. I am using a Logitech
G11 keyboard.. On device manaager it is listed as HID keyboard device twice*

okay, I just tried a PS/2 keyboard instead of a USB keyboard, and the windows
key has worked..I'm going to go over to the Logitech site and see if I can
solve this through them.

Thanks for your responses.

I have had problems with mice and keyboards with drivers are listed twice.
Sometimes you don't see them twice unless you boot in safe mode.

My Windows key has stopped working. Any solutions??

In Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), what keyboard is listed there?

Did you install any software with the keyboard, like to help remap its
keys or define its programmable buttons?
