I have a Dell dimension xps r400. It has been giving me all sorts of problems
in the past weeks. I just completely reinstalled windows, and this is the
only problem that remains: every single time windows starts up it say it has
detected new hardware that needs to be installed. I then click ok, and it
says its an unknown infared device. It cant find any drivers for it on the
computer, or windows update. I have no infared divice in my computer, so I
have no idea why it is doing this. I have not make any hardware changes or
anything. It also had this problem before I had to reformat my hard drive. I
have tried putting in another hard drive from a differnt computer, and it did
not find any ifrared device. It looks like its the hard drive that is the
problem. But is there anyway I can tell windows to stop bothering me every
boot-up with the find new hardware wizzard? Can't it just ignore it?

Right-click on My Computer, go to Properties, go to Device
Manager, locate the device in the list and right-click on
it, go to Properties and at the bottom of the screen
select the down arrow to the right of Device Usage and
click on "Do not use this device (disable)" then click OK.

The best solution would be to find out who the
manufacturer of the infrared device is and locate the
proper inf file or driver for it.

Good Luck !
