windows is closing programs when the screen saver starts

When I leave my computer idling the screen saver kicks in (as would be
expected) but then when I move my mouse or awaken the computer the program
that is currenly open (any program) shuts down . Why is this happening and
what can I do to fix it? Thank you!

I had that strange issue on one install. Mostly the application window that
last had the focus was killed. A work-around is to fire off a new browser
window just before you leave the pc. Never was able to get to the bottom of
the cause. A clean install usually fixes these things.

Yes, that seems to be what is happening but you mentioned a clean install
usually fixes things up. A clean install of what?

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but rather than a clean
install, why not just disable the screensaver?
