Greetings,
After running "McAfee Quick Clean" to remove unnecessary
files all was normal untill I booted the system. On start-
up Windows loaded then a message "window installer,
prepairing to install". Left alone for a minute or two,
the window closes and all seems normal.
Going to "controle panel" add/remove program I attempt to
remove a program and a message appears "patch packet
could not be opened". This has been going on for three
days. I was hoping it would right it self.
Oh yes, I did a restore but, didn't help.
(XP Home OEM service pack 2) Please be specific with any
instructions. Thanks, George

I would at first check if McAfee provides help with this issue.
If no: Do a system file check with the command
SFC /scannow
via Start > Run. If this does not help, repair Windows as described
here: "How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows
XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315341).
