Hi Dover,

Which application is it trying to install? Meanwhile, check the following

Thats the pont, I am not trying to install anything. If I openan application
the Windows installer comes up and the message is "Prepaining to install"
hit cances and within a minute it stops, the disk drive makes a noise and
then everything is ok until I open another application

Yes, I understand that. What I'm saying is that the Windows installer is
performing an on-demand installation for an application that's already
present in the system. BTW, did you check the link which I posted earlier?

Ramesh,

I'm experiencing the same problem as "Dover 48."

I believe you're misinterpreting his (and my) problem. Windows Installer
activitates upon system boot and tries to install every process that loads in
the background. In addition, WI activates whenever an application is opened,
an IE tab is opened, etc.

Respectfully, your registry script does not solve our problem.

The only fix i can find is to 1) Get a Mac and run OS 10.4, or @) Erase
(uninstall Windows Installer. The second choice does not stop the problem,
but diminishes it quite a bit.

I can't remember but are you running Office 2007 B2TR? If so, I worked with
MS TS on a resolution. The only resolution is to uninstall Office 2007 B2TR,
clean-up with the WICU then reboot. You can then reinstall B2TR and you
should have no further problems unless a registry pointer becomes corrupted
again (the original cause of the problem).
