windows installer problem

recently I installed WMP11 and the trouble started. Now each time I click on
MS or related program the dialog (Windows installer) "preparing to install"
pops up and hangs up the computer for a minute or two, when in Internet
Explorer, when I click on links it does the same thing. I contacted HP help,
and they advised to uninstall Windows Installer from add/remove program which
I did but the problem persists. I restored computer to time prior to WMP11
install but the same problem exists, Help!!! I am going crazy trying to
figure this out.
