Windows Installer pops up constantly

I have internet explorer 6 and for the past two weeks I am constantly getting
a pop up that says Windows Installer Preparing to install.... nothing ever
happens, I usually hit the cancel button and then have to cntrl alt delete to
end the task. Please help, I've tried everything and can't fix it.

Thankyou for answering me! I have downloaded the clean up utility, but the
problem is that I don't know what to uninstall. any ideas?
