Windows Installer Malfunction

I had a drive crash. Got new drive and re-installed XP Pro. About a week
later started having problems when I attempted to install SP2. It would get
about half done then I would get a "Permission Denied" error message and it
would then un-install what it had done. I am the Administrator and only
user. I tried removing all firewalls, virius checker, etc. Same result.
Now the Office says it needs to be re-installed and the Windows Installer has
gone south on me. I even tried to do a complete new install of XPPro but it
hangs up at the setup stage.
I would appreciate any input...am at wits end.

The saying 'Repeated efforts expecting different results is a sign of
insanity!!' really seems to be appropriate here....

not be booting to the xp cd,youre probably trying thru IE.Try the boot.

Check in the "user accounts" control panel and verify if
you have set a password on you account. It is a nasty glitch
but sometimes does happen. Write down that password. Also
the control panel for "Computer Management" (Control
Panel>Performance & Maintenance>Administrative Tools>
Computer Manager.) In this go to users & Groups/Local
Users/<your name> (usually). Open this, retype your name in
the name field , and Administrator in the second field.
Click on apply and then ok. Close control panel. Then if any
applications are running, close them and restart for the
changes to take effect. Use the password you wrote down as a
function of User account creation step to log in. After
these are done, you should not have much trouble with SP2
install. SP2 and any major installs/changes require admin
access rights. What is created during fresh install is a
basic user/default account which shows in the persons name
under Documents and settings.
