Sorry, if it doesn't say that it is a registry cleaner then I'm not to
know;
not all of us are computer-literate. I think that my problems may be
associated with SQL Server 2005. I have various SQL Server items listed
in
Add/Remove Programs, should I uninstall them? I have Office 2007
installed
which includes Access. If I uninstall the SQL Server and associated
files
will that result in Access not working correctly? I am an ordinary
home-user
and I have little technical knowledge - please be kind.

What do you think XP Smoker Pro is, if not a "Registry cleaner"?

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus
and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea
Timer,
AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before
attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party
firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!

Thanks for the info. I've read the posts via your link and have
decided
not
to try a registry cleaner but I still have problems. Also, now have
an
update trying to install when I log off but there isn't a icon in my
systray
indicating Windows updates waiting to be installed. I've run my
McAfee
security software and it doesn't find anything.

Again, what updates were installed recently?
Might [XP Smoker Pro] have caused the problem when I uninstalled
it?
Doubtful, but using the application may have. Do you have backups
of
the
changes to the Registry it made?
Think your Registry needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own
conclusions.

Just remembered what I've done recently - downloaded and installed
XP
Smoker
Pro as recommended on Windows Secrets and then my free limited
subscription
ran out. Might that program have caused the problem when I
uninstalled
it?
The SQL error message I'm geting is "Your SQL Server installation
is
either
corrupt or has been tampered with (could not open SQLEVN70.RLL).
Please
uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem" The Windows
Installer
window appears briefly when I open IE7.

What Windows Updates were installed recently?

Just recently a Windows Installer box appears when installing new
programs
and when I log out. The box appears for just a second and I hear
the
hard
drive run with a couple of "clicks". I thinks that the problem
started
after a recent Windows Update automatic download. I have searched
this
discussion group for this problem but without finding the exact
same
problem. I'm sorry if this is not the correct group for my
question.
