Windows Installer at startup

Whenever my computer (XP with SP-2) starts up, "Windows Installer" appears
and has to be cancelled 3 times to get rid of it. This has occurred for the
past week -- since I reformated drive C, so I have a relatively clean C
drive with not many programs.

Before I reformatted, I received the same error every time I started MS Word
or Excel (2003). I did not receive the error at startup before
reformatting. Following the advice I saw somewhere I unchecked Norton
AntiVirus Office checking and that solved the problem.

Would appreciate anyone's ideas and advice. Thank you.

Windows installer should not be present if windows is installed properly.

Sounds like you did not correctly finish a windows installation and then
started again??

Suggest you start again and reinstall Windows on a newly formatted drive

This is like burning the house down to get rid of a few ants.

Windows was installed and works fine. Remember this error also appeared
before my reinstallation under different circumstances.
