Windows Installer 2.0 Installation Errors

Guest

I am getting errors installing NAV 2004 Pro "The Installer requires that Microsoft Widows Installer be on your computer. Without it, you cannot install this Symantec product"

I already have MSI installed.

I downloaded InstMsiW.exe from the MS website and tried to install it, but got the following error "An unexpected error occured".

The following is logged to the Application Log in Event Viewer:

Detection of product '{00040409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}',
feature 'CustomerManagementApplication' failed during request for
component '{73D1FD1A-2BE5-11D2-B153-00C04F990B2B}'

I got the same error trying to install MSI from my WIn200 CD and Notons CD.

Can anyone assist

thanks

Lookin at otehr posts,. I believe the event viewer message is when I start Outlook, as it asking for the install disk every time. Clicking Cancel proceeds to load Outlook.

Search for this key {00040409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}
in the registry. It should tell you which is the product
causing the problem. It sould be HKCR\Installer\Products

Installer requires that Microsoft Widows Installer be on

Anil,

thanks for your advice. Ther key is pointing to MS products such as WordArt,
Publisher, Office 2000 Disk 2 etc.

I still have the issue with trying to re-install InstMsiW.exe as I get the
message "An unexpected error occured".

And therefor cannot install any apps.

I had a support call in with MS, who recommended I ran the Cleanup utility
but this has now mad Outlook, Word & Ecel (and possibly others) not load at
all.

Outlook error is "The application required windows installer to run".

Word & Excell error is "Unable to run this command".

It looks like a format and re-install. Do you know Bill Gates' email
address.

regards

Gavin
