Strange request while browsing.

I hoping that someone can explain this .....

On a few occasions, while surfing the net, I have had the Office install window
pop up trying to install 'something' but until I know, I'm a bit hesitant to let
it happen even though I would be using my original Office install CD.

On checking the application event log, I see these 2 entries

Detection of product '{00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}', feature
'HTMLSourceEditing' failed during request for component
'{9E0B2BE1-DEDA-11D1-A17E-00A0C90AB50F}'

Product: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional -- Error 1706. No valid source
could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional. The Windows
installer cannot continue.

The second one is obvious due to the fact I'm not letting the installation
continue.

I have tried the Microsoft Help & support & Technet web sites with no results.

The 'HTMLSourceEditing' sounds very suspicious to me & I'm wondering what the
web page is trying to do.

Do you recon it's safe to stick in the CD & let it install & what are the
consequences?

Hi there Stan,

Can you give an example of a website that you are going to that does this?

Also, go to update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us .
This will take you to the Microsoft Updates website. The difference between
this site and the Windows update site is that this one includes all updates
for Microsoft Office Products as well. Run it and see if you have any
updates for your Office Products.

More than likely the install is harmless, but I don't mind checking the site
for you if you'd like.

Best Regards,

~Will

G'day Will,

Thanks for your reply.

Hi there Stan,

Unfortunately my history has now delegated all those links to 'last week' & I
can't seem to find the last site that gave the problem but I'll keep looking. Is
it possible to have been in a popup & not showing up in history?

MS Office is up to date, SP3 and various updates up to and including 'Mar 14,
2006 (905413): MS06-012 '.
Add/remove shows lots of unnamed updates that can't be removed associated with
Microsoft Office 2000
More than likely the install is harmless, but I don't mind checking the site
for you if you'd like.

Hi Stan,

Go to RUN -> type SERVICES.MSC n hit enter.

From services window look for the OFFICE source engine and make sure it is
STARTED and AUTOMATIC. If not, right click on Office source - > Properties ->
change STARTUP type as AUTOMATIC and then start the service.

I was able to fix similar issues n hope this works for you as well!

G'day Arun,

I think this may be the problem, following your instructions, there is no sign
of anything to do with office (or any of its components). Where do I go from
here?

On a similar point, it is Office 2000, I don't think XP existed when that came
out but the updates may have made it 'aware' of XP. Could that be why it's not
listed in the services (it all seems to work fine)?

Instead of guessing with this idiot. Get the moron to post an example url. Then you can look and see why by looking at the code's source.

All of you are f&ckwits.
