I've posted this query a while back with no resolution from a few replies & a
few 'blunt' requests for any example website .....
A website that causes the Office install is www.filesearching.com
I am asked 4 times to install something by the Office installer but never again
until the computer rebooted & I visit this site again. Note, closing IE &
restarting will not reproduce the request, only rebooting.
On a few occasions, while surfing the net, I have had the Office install window
pop up trying to install 'something' but until I know, I'm a bit hesitant to let
it happen even though I would be using my original Office install CD.
On checking the application event log, I see these 2 entries
Detection of product '{00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}', feature
'HTMLSourceEditing' failed during request for component
'{9E0B2BE1-DEDA-11D1-A17E-00A0C90AB50F}'
Product: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional -- Error 1706. No valid source
could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional. The Windows
installer cannot continue.
The second one is obvious due to the fact I'm not letting the installation
continue.
I have tried the Microsoft Help & support & Technet web sites with no results.
The 'HTMLSourceEditing' sounds very suspicious to me & I'm wondering what the
web page is trying to do.
Do you recon it's safe to stick in the CD & let it install & what are the
consequences?
